Thank you for visiting my website. I am employed as a musician, bringing therapeutic music to residents, patients, families, and staff throughout the North Texas area. I primarily work with an older population living in long term care and rehabilitation facilities, and specialize with those having dementia and memory issues. My day usually consists of providing familiar songs to groups as well as individuals in a one-to-one setting.
I play acoustic guitar and sing, drawing from a wide variety of songs that I have memorized through the years. Itís interesting to see the profound effect that music can often have. Many times it is used in assisting folks to be more active and alert, plus helping with memory and recall. And it may also be used in situations where a calming effect is desired. When appropriate, individuals are encouraged to interact with the music activity.
The six dimensions of wellness are often considered and incorporated when planning and conducting music activities. These six dimensions of wellness are physical wellness, social wellness, emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, vocational wellness, and spiritual wellness. Any number of responses are possible, including singing, smiling, laughing, talking, remembering, and moving hands and feet along with the music.
In addition to providing therapeutic music, my wife, Thelma, and I are actively involved with educating and motivating our community to make better choices regarding food, nutrition, and a healthier lifestyle. We conduct meetings around the area that include information about food and eating choices, as well as original songs that are health related, motivational, and entertaining.
